Pfizer and BioNTech Announce Positive COVID-19 Vaccine Trial Results for Children Aged 5 to 11
Pfizer and BioNTech have released encouraging results from their clinical trials for the COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 5 to 11. According to a press release, the vaccine proved to be safe, well-tolerated, and capable of eliciting a robust immune response in this younger demographic.
Trial Details and Immune Response
The findings, announced on September 20, are based on a trial involving 2,268 children between the ages of 5 and 11. Participants received two 10-microgram doses of the vaccine administered 21 days apart—a lower dosage than the 30-microgram dose currently given to individuals aged 12 and older.
The results indicate that the pediatric dose generates an immune response comparable to that observed in a control group of 16- to 25-year-olds. Furthermore, the side effects experienced by the younger children were consistent with those seen in the older age group, confirming the vaccine's safety and tolerability.
