A devastating and fast-moving mudslide near Lillooet, British Columbia, has claimed the lives of three men and left a fourth missing, authorities have confirmed. The tragic event, which unfolded on November 15 along a treacherous stretch of Highway 99—commonly known as Duffey Lake Road—was triggered by a relentless deluge of extreme rainfall and severe atmospheric weather conditions that battered the region.

The grim reality of the disaster was confirmed by B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe, who detailed the painstaking recovery efforts over the past several days. Following the initial incident, the body of a woman was recovered from the debris on Monday, marking the first confirmed fatality linked to the region’s widespread landslides and flooding. The search continued through the week, with one man's body recovered on Wednesday and two more on Thursday. Tragically, a fourth man remains unaccounted for. Despite the tireless and courageous efforts of search and rescue teams, the operation to locate the missing individual was ultimately suspended after all possible avenues had been thoroughly exhausted.
