Like many households, mine struggles to accurately predict how much milk we’ll actually use in a week. Buy too little, and it vanishes in days. Stock up, and it often lingers in the fridge until the expiration date passes. It wasn’t until recently that I discovered a simple, highly effective solution: you can actually freeze milk.
How to Freeze Milk Safely
Freezing milk is straightforward, but it requires one quick prep step to avoid a messy freezer mishap. Before placing a full gallon in the freezer, pour out roughly one cup. Milk expands as it freezes, and skipping this step can leave you with a split container and a frozen spill.
Always freeze milk in plastic jugs or other freezer-safe plastic containers. Glass is strictly off-limits, as the drastic temperature drop can cause it to crack or shatter.
